Signs It's Time To Seek Counselling

Blog

Many people assume that counselling is only needed once when you have some issues. Well, that's not true. You have every reason to seek counselling services if you feel depressed or need a strong support system.

If your mental health is deteriorating, you shouldn't hesitate to see a therapist. You can't keep to yourself when you are suffering and expect things to work. Knowing when to see a counsellor can help solve your problems before they get too deep. So, here are the distinct signs that you need counselling services.

You Are Fighting Addictions

Addictions can have detrimental effects on your life. Sadly, fighting these addictions requires you to have a strong support system. A licensed addiction counsellor can come in handy if you are trying to achieve and maintain sobriety.

As long as you are ready for a change, your addiction counsellor will support you throughout the recovery process. What's more, your counsellor will be instrumental in relapse prevention. So, if you are dealing with any addiction, seek help from a counsellor.

You Are Dealing with Trauma

If a horrible event happens to you, there is a chance you will have to deal with trauma. As you know, trauma can be caused by rape, the death of a loved one, domestic violence, natural disasters, severe illness, or witnessing traumatic events.

Most traumatic events can haunt you for the rest of your life if you fail to get the right treatment. So, if you have flashbacks of traumatic events, seek professional help.

You Are Grieving

Grieving the death of your kid, friend, relative, or pet can be a long and difficult process. Some people get better very fast, but others are unable to adjust. So, if you have been grieving for a long time and you feel as if the pain will never end, consider talking to a counsellor. Your counsellor will lend a listening ear and offer advice on how to cope with grief.

You Feel Hopeless

Anyone can feel hopeless at some point in life. Many people can pick themselves up and move on, while others get stuck in the world of hopelessness. Feeling hopeless can be a major concern if it happens all the time. In that case, you will tend to have negative thoughts and even contemplate suicide. The good thing is that you can get rid of this feeling and find purpose in life by talking to a therapist.

Contact a local counselling service if you're dealing with any of these issues or others that are detrimental to your health.

Living With Depression And Anxiety

I've struggled with bouts of depression and anxiety for the past ten years, and in that time I've tried a range of prescription drugs and alternative therapies. I started this blog to share my personal experiences and connect with other people who struggle with these illnesses, as I know only too well how lonely it can be to live under a cloud of depression. I post about a range of topics, such as talking to your employer about depression, getting support from family and friends and self-care tips. I also share my thoughts on the drug-free treatments I've used, such as talking therapy, yoga, homeopathy and meditation. I hope you find my blog interesting and useful.
